Transforming Spaces, Transforming Lives at Pearl Haven

Hoola DSC 3576 web

Nestled on 12 acres of tranquil rural land,  Pearl Haven emerges as a sanctuary designed to foster healing and renewal.  Operated by Ho’ola Napua, this facility represents a collaboration that includes the expertise of Office Pavilion, aligning our commitment to creating spaces that nurture and empower with the mission to support young survivors of exploitation.

The design of Pearl Haven draws inspiration from the resilience and delicate beauty of a pearl, symbolizing purity, recovery, and the transformation of adversity into something precious.  Initiated in 2017 with the vision of transforming the historic Crawford Convalescent Home into a beacon of hope, this endeavor faced numerous challenges.  Despite financial hurdles and construction delays, the community's unwavering support and collaborative spirit brought the vision to fruition in 2021.

This state-of-the-art facility beautifully merges the historical essence of the original structure with contemporary design principles, resulting in a therapeutic environment that encapsulates both safety and tranquility.  At Office Pavilion, our contribution extends beyond furnishing; it embodies our core commitment to "Creating the Best Places to Work, Serve, Learn and Heal."  Here, every detail is aligned with our values of care and excellence, ensuring that the spaces not only meet the functional needs of its residents but also foster a sense of hope and possibility.

Project Goals

  • Provide a safe, therapeutic environment for youth to heal from trauma.
  • Incorporate trauma-informed design principles that prioritize safety, comfort, and healing.
  • Offer spaces that support a comprehensive range of programming, from therapy to education and recreation.
  • Preserve the history of the building while modernizing it for its new purpose.

A Trauma-Informed Design

Every aspect of Pearl Haven was created with healing and recovery in mind. The facility features home-like bedrooms, soothing therapy rooms, and welcoming common areas for relaxation and socialization.  A learning kitchen, dining area, and classroom spaces were added to support life skills and education, while private nurse and therapist rooms ensure individualized care.  These spaces, combined with recreational areas and lush vegetable gardens, create an environment of growth and restoration.

Special attention was paid to the design’s details, from the use of healing colors to the careful selection of furnishings and accessories that minimize risks.  Flexible, behavioral health-focused furniture was chosen to support both the unique needs of the residents and the wide range of activities hosted in the space.

“Felt safety, is first and foremost as a youth who has been traumatized begins to heal. Pearl Haven was designed to not only feel safe but also create an environment that fosters trust, acceptance, and warmth. Many of the youth we serve have been in other facilities and programs, we wanted to avoid the feeling of being “another placement”. Together, we have been able to achieve this goal. ”
