Hawaiian Host Group revitalized three floors of the iconic Judd Building in downtown Honolulu, aiming to blend functionality with the welcoming feel of a coffee shop, while paying homage to the building’s historic architecture. Spearheaded by Office Pavilion’s Account Executive, David Chang, the project sought to create a workspace that seamlessly integrated productivity and comfort.

Office Pavilion collaborated with Indigo Republic to create a warm, inviting environment in the Judd Building, emphasizing a natural palette of browns and greens that evokes the comfort of a coffee shop. Classic mid-century modern pieces such as Eames Lounge Chairs and Knoll Womb Chairs pay homage to the timeless aesthetic while complementing the building’s historic architecture. This thoughtful approach seamlessly merges modern function with vintage elegance, creating a unique workspace where history and contemporary design come together

Spanning 15,000 square feet, the project transformed traditional office spaces across three floors into a harmonious blend of private offices, flexible meeting rooms, training areas, workstations, and break rooms. For example, the first floor features a flexible training room for 20+ people, small meeting areas, and workstations. The upper floors include conference rooms, break areas, and additional private offices—all designed to foster creativity and collaboration while retaining a welcoming atmosphere reminiscent of a coffee shop.

This transformation was not without its challenges. The project navigated complexities such as limited elevator access in the historic building and pandemic-related constraints. However, Office Pavilion’s innovative logistical solutions ensured Hawaiian Host’s vision was achieved without compromising on quality or design.

Reflecting on the project, David Chang shared, “It was a pleasure working with a client and designer who had a clear aesthetic vision. We strived to select furniture that was not only functional but also evoked a cozy, welcoming vibe within this historic space. The result is a stunning, modernized office that respects the timeless charm of the Judd Building.”

Today, the relationship continues to grow, with Office Pavilion supporting Hawaiian Host Group as they expand their workspaces both locally and in Los Angeles. The outcome is a beautifully transformed workspace where productivity and comfort coexist, honoring the past while embracing the future.
